Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in strength within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of characters who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear out of place, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

First, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death started the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants retribution.
  • The adventurer has experience in the region and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their position as important members in the influential clan could enable the team enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The healer defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to the remote area in search of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Explorers and Planners groups.

Fans can expect discovering which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
